Are you seeking compassionate support to manage the emotional challenges associated with chronic illness or medical treatment?

Katie Sclafani, LCSW (she/her)

I’m Katie. I work with clients to address the unique challenges that arise at the intersection of mental health and medical care, including medical trauma, burnout, and the multifaceted emotional experiences related to receiving a life-altering diagnosis.

With my clinical social work experience in emergency, ICU, inpatient, and ambulatory-care settings, I’m uniquely qualified to provide therapy to those facing major medical events across the lifespan, particularly chronic illness and solid-organ transplantation. I also support parents navigating their child’s illness, drawing on my extensive experience in family-centered pediatric-care settings.

My practice is grounded in a humanistic and empathetic approach, informed by frameworks such as Dignity Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I integrate traditional talk therapy with practical care coordination, supporting patients and their families in overcoming obstacles and managing the emotional challenges that often accompany navigating the complex healthcare system.

I’m certified in Clinical Transplant Social Work and Palliative Care. I use evidence-based approaches to support integration of illness into identity—so that it becomes part of your story, but does not define you. I’m dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized care that fosters resilience and well-being during some of life’s most challenging experiences.
